William "Bill" Mahomes Jr. '69
William “Bill” Mahomes, Jr., of Dallas, received his bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University and a Juris Doctorate from The University of Texas School of Law. He is Executive Vice President and General Counsel at Vista Bank.
Prior to joining Vista Bank, Mahomes was a partner at Bracewell LLP, Dallas Texas, with a primary concentration in the Regulatory Division including public finance, real estate and commercial transactions.
Mr. Mahomes has also served as a senior partner for a major Dallas-based national law firm, a partner for an international law firm and a senior vice-president and general counsel for a mid-sized local corporation. He has served as counsel to the Federal National Mortgage Association (“Fannie Mae”) and is the general counsel of Pro Line Corporation. Mr. Mahomes is a frequent speaker at the University of Dallas on Corporate Governance. He also served as a Captain in the United States Army Reserves, assigned to the JAG Corps.
Mr. Mahomes serves on the board of the Dallas-based Today Foundation, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas Advisory Board and the Unlocking Doors Foundation. He has served on the boards of the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, Texas Turnpike Authority, Texas Pension Review Board, Pure World, Kent Financial Services, The Salvation Army, The Real Estate Council, Texas Lyceum, and Pro-Line Corporation.
Mr. Mahomes was appointed to the Board of Regents by Governor Greg Abbott in 2015 and reappointed in 2021. He was elected Vice Chairman of the Board on June 7, 2021. He has served as Chairman of the Committee on Buildings and Physical Plant and currently serves as a member of that committee. He also served as Chairman of the Committee on Audit and currently serves as a member of that committee. Mr. Mahomes has served as Chairman of the Committee on Finance and as a member of the Committee on Academic and Student Affairs. He serves as a liaison to the Texas A&M University Corps of Cadets and System Military Training Programs. Mr. Mahomes has served as a liaison to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and the Development Foundations of A&M System Members. His term will expire February 1, 2027.
Mr. Mahomes was named a Distinguished Alumnus of Texas A&M University in 2022, and also was received the Texas Lawyers’ Trailblazer award in 2020, IMA Human Relations Award in 2019 and J. L. Turner Legal Association Trailblazer Award in 2016.
Bill is married to his wife of 34 years, Pamela Mahomes, and they have two adult daughters, Lauren Mahomes Cerney and Lindsey Michelle Mahomes.
