Patrick M. Breen, DVM, '78, is an Aggie veterinarian, philanthropist, auctioneer, Texas A&M scholarship fundraiser, and a founding member of the Williamson County A&M Club, a club that is a flagship program among former student organizations. Having attended Texas A&M on scholarships, and after graduating from veterinary school, Dr. Breen met with the Class of 1934, which had awarded him their first Opportunity Awards Scholarship. His promise to them was that he would continue their scholarship work by being not only an advocate, but a donor. And so, starting with raising the funds for one $500 scholarship at a fish fry in the early 90's, he helped grow the Williamson County A&M club into a thriving scholarship program. He is a founding board member, and chair, of the Williamson County A&M Foundation. He served as chair of that scholarship foundation for 24 years, building a program that now gives annually, on average, over $30,000 in scholarships to Texas A&M bound Williamson County high school seniors.
Dr. Breen practiced veterinary medicine for 37 years in Madisonville, Crockett, Freeport, and finally in Georgetown, Texas, where he established The Animal Hospital of Georgetown in 1989. Before retirement from veterinary practice, Dr. Breen served at the state level with the Texas Veterinary Medical Association, chairing 5 committees, and served as President of both the Brazoria County Veterinary Medical Association and the Capital Area Veterinary Medical Association. He also served as the veterinarian for both the Austin Police Department's and the University of Texas' drug and bomb dogs. That passion for the working dog carried through as he was chosen as a veterinarian for the Iditarod Race in Alaska, staying on the trail during the race and treating the competing sled dogs, in both 2011 and 2012. Dr. Breen is staff veterinarian, President of the Board, and an in the dirt volunteer, for Ride On Center for Kids, a full scale equine assisted therapy program based in Georgetown, TX, that serves children and veterans with disabilities. Through his work with ROCK, Dr. Breen is involved with the Texas A&M Institute for Equine Sciences, and is a guest lecturer at Texas A&M for BIMS 380, a class that coordinates with Courtney Cares, which is a program that utilizes Parsons Mounted Cavalry horses for equine assisted therapy services in the Bryan/College Station area. In 2019, Dr. Breen was chosen as the PATH International Veterinarian of the Year for his dedication to ROCK and to children, adults, and veterans with physical, cognitive, and emotional disabilities. He is currently serving as Chairman of the Dean’s Development Council for The College of Veterinary Medicine at Texas A&M and is a Mark Francis fellow.
Upon retirement, and after exploring different retirement paths that would allow him to give back, Dr. Breen attended Missouri Auction School in 2016, becoming a certified benefit auction specialist, and went on to the Professional Ringman Institute in 2017. He uses his benefit auction specialty at galas and fundraising events that help nonprofits, and other organizations, to raise money for causes that are near and dear to their purposes, and is closing in on raising $10 Million for charities in the past 8 years.
Married to his high school sweetheart for the past 46 years, Dr. Breen is dad to three daughters, two of whom are Aggies, Classes of 2002 and 2013. He is also son-in-law, brother, uncle, & brother-in-law to many, many Aggies, instilling a love of Texas A&M that runs throughout his family. Among their giving through endowed gifts via The Texas A&M Foundation, the Breens have supported Parsons Mounted Cavalry and the College of Veterinary Medicine.
The Tomball Area A&M Club thanks Dr. Breen for his commitment to serving as our 2025 Muster speaker.
